and was named for its high water content. Both Hime-Mizuki and Mizuki prefer moist environments.
Hime-Mizuki also has an alternative name, "Hyuga-Mizuki." This name comes from the fact that it grew abundantly in the Tamba region, northern Kyoto,
and is derived from "Akechi Hyuga no Kami Mitsuhide," who served as a lord in the Warring States period and overthrew Oda Nobunaga.
It also has another name, "Iyo-Mizuki," which is derived from a place name (Iyo) but is not actually its native habitat.
Additionally, it is also known as "Koba no Tosa-Mizuki." This means "small-leaved Tosa-Mizuki," and as the name suggests, its leaves are smaller than Tosa-Mizuki.
Tosa-Mizuki is a type of dogwood native to parts of Kochi Prefecture in the Shikoku region. It's quite a confusing plant with so many names.
