"重ねる medetashi - New Year Gift 2026" #3: Arrangements Befitting the New Year, Guided by Placement

Where to display "New Year's flowers"

“Where's the best place to display New Year's flowers?”

Our 2026 New Year's project started with this simple question.
For everyday flowers, most households have a designated spot. But when it comes to New Year's flowers, the situation is a little different.

When faced with this question, the &YOUKAEN product planning team arrived at a very simple answer.
That is, to display them in "the best spot in the room."

What is "the best spot in the room"?

We believe that New Year's bouquets and arrangements are not just flowers to brighten a room, but also serve a slightly different purpose than everyday flowers.

They are like a small charm to welcome the new year with a fresh feeling.
The reason for displaying flowers and decorations at New Year's is not just for ornamentation, but also to welcome the Toshigami (New Year's deities).

With that in mind, "where to place them" becomes very important.
A place that naturally catches the eye and instantly refreshes the spirit—isn't that "the best spot in the room"?

Rather than a dining table or bedroom that is used daily,
a display shelf or niche, a "place for carefully displaying something important."
We thought that such a space is where New Year's flowers would fit perfectly.

*Niche: A decorative space created by recessing part of a wall, like a display shelf.

For 2026, &YOUKAEN designed New Year's arrangements by considering "where they can be placed."

For our 2026 New Year's gifts, we started product development with the main goal of creating items that "look perfectly festive just by placing them on a display shelf."

We paid particular attention to the following three points:

  • Auspiciousness befitting the New Year
  • Modern and gentle color schemes that blend with any room
  • Designs that look most beautiful when viewed from the front

Auspiciousness

Essential to New Year's arrangements are the auspicious meanings held by the flowers and greenery.
We primarily selected floral materials that have long been cherished in Japan, such as Daio-matsu (Japanese white pine), Nanten (heavenly bamboo), and Chrysanthemums.

We have explained the meanings behind each flower in detail in our previous blog post. Please take a look at that as well.

Modern and gentle color schemes that blend with any room

Traditional New Year's flowers often featured strong colors and traditional Japanese elements.
However, with more and more homes without Japanese-style rooms, many people feel that "they want to decorate but they don't match the interior."

Therefore, this year, while maintaining the festive splendor and auspiciousness of the New Year,
we focused on color schemes that blend seamlessly into Western-style rooms.

For the container, we chose soft off-white ceramics.
They have an elegant texture while gently unifying the overall impression.

For the main flowers, we used decorative chrysanthemums.
We combined subtle colors that are vibrant without being overly assertive.

Design that is most beautiful when viewed from the front

Display shelves are often at eye level.
Therefore, we designed them to be most appealing when viewed from the front, rather than from above.

We also emphasized three-dimensionality, with a balanced arrangement of not only flowers but also dynamic branches and berries, so that the expression changes depending on the viewing angle.
We hope you will take your time to enjoy gazing at them.

Recommended places to display New Year's arrangements and creative ideas to match

New Year's arrangements that can be placed at the entrance

For the entrance, we recommend the M-sized arrangement or the "ready-to-display bouquet."
Their moderate size creates a strong presence, perfect for welcoming New Year's guests.
We focused on creating a festive look that instantly brightens the entrance.

New Year's arrangements that blend naturally into dining and living rooms

For the dining table, the S-sized arrangement is recommended.
Its compact size won't interfere with your New Year's feast.

Additionally, since they can be displayed separately, you can enjoy them in different ways depending on the occasion, such as displaying them together as interior decor normally, and separating them during meal times.

Designed for "no worries about where to place them"

One important point this year is that you don't have to worry about where to place them.
They are designed to be easy to choose as gifts and for recipients to display without hesitation.

We hope you can welcome the New Year comfortably,
with flowers befitting the auspicious New Year.

Welcome 2026 with spaciousness of mind through New Year's arrangements

Our 2026 New Year's gift lineup offers options that can be displayed to suit various lifestyles.

Simply placing them in the best spot in your room will create a proper "auspicious New Year."

We hope you can choose them with peace of mind, even during the busy year-end.
May &YOUKAEN's New Year's arrangements gently accompany you at the start of a new year.
