What are the tricks to making "dried flowers" last longer? Introducing how to maintain the display so that it stays beautifully displayed for a long time.
Have you ever bought a dried flower swag at a flower shop or received a small dried flower gift from an acquaintance and wondered how to care for it?
You might vaguely know that they're cared for differently than fresh flowers, but you might also be thinking, "Do I really not need to do anything at all?" We've heard such questions from our customers.😌
This time, we'll introduce some tips for caring for dried flowers to keep them beautiful for longer.☺️
Tip for longevity ①
Where is the best place to put dried flowers?
High humidity areas are an absolute NO!
Dried flowers are items made by drying plant materials.😊
Therefore, they are extremely vulnerable to humidity, so display them in a well-ventilventilated area as much as possible.
Leaving them in a humid place for an extended period can lead to mold growth.
Bathrooms, changing rooms, and shower rooms are, of course, out of the question.
Direct sunlight is a NO!
This applies not only to dried flowers but to many floral items;
continuous exposure to sunlight or strong light will cause the colors to fade.
(*The same applies to printed materials; this phenomenon, where color components change due to UV and infrared rays, is called fading.)
Even indoor lighting can cause colors to fade.
To put it extremely, keeping them in a dark place is the best way to make them last the longest,
but that's not very realistic, is it?🙃
Try to keep them away from windows as much as possible,
and display them where they won't receive direct sunlight.
Tip for longevity ②
Maintain your "dried flowers" regularly!
Be sure to dust thoroughly!
If you display them for a long time, dust will inevitably accumulate.
Leaving it as is can cause the dust to absorb moisture, leading to mold.
So, make sure to dust them off when you notice it.
Dust tends to accumulate especially between the leaves and stems,
so pay close attention there.
Of course, it's a definite NO to spray water to remove dust!
Discard any moldy parts immediately!
If you notice anything fluffy or whitish attached to your dried flowers,
that's mold...🤔
It can sometimes appear if humid days continue for a while.
From experience, the stem part often gets moldy.
If it's just a light growth, a quick dry wipe is fine.
If the leaves or petals have white mold,
as regrettable as it is, pluck off and discard those parts.
When do you have to discard dried flowers?
Dried flowers are actually a favorite food of certain insects.😋
The insects that typically cling to dried flowers are usually drugstore beetles.
Drugstore beetles eat not only dried flowers but also other dry items like newspapers and pasta.
They are commonly found indoors in Japan. They are about 1 to 2 millimeters in size and white in color.
Since they have wings, it's difficult to prevent them from coming in from outside, which is problematic.🤔
While they rarely harm humans,
they can spread from dried flowers to tatami mats or food,
potentially causing widespread damage.
If dried flowers become a source of drugstore beetles, it's unfortunate, but it's best to dispose of them.😢
